Sunday Feb 26th 2012

Evening was approaching when Jesus sent his disciples toward the other side of the Sea of Galilee by boat, dismissed the crowd, and retired alone to pray. He must have prayed for several hours because the Bible says he didn't approach the disciples' boat until about three o'clock in the morning.
The disciples' terror at seeing a figure walking on the water was understandable. They assumed the figure must be a ghost. Their cries of fear prompted Jesus to respond with compassion.
Hearing Jesus' voice, Peter had the impetuous idea that maybe Jesus could help
him walk on water, too. Jesus took him up on it. Peter's success and then his failure hinged on his focus on Jesus. When his focus wavered from Jesus, Peter faltered and almost drowned.

Read Aloud: Matthew 14:22-33

• How would you have felt if you had seen Jesus walking toward you on top of the water?
• How can your faith in Jesus help you the next time you face a tough situation?
• Of all the amazing things you know that Jesus has done, what do you think is the most amazing?
